Pediatric Growth Charts

Optimal Infant Nutrition for Growth & Development
As you may be aware, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently recommended that healthcare providers begin using the 2006 World Health Organization (WHO) international growth charts, rather than the standard CDC growth charts, to monitor growth in U.S. children aged <24 months. This recommendation was made to reflect the CDC’s determination that WHO growth curves provide a standard of “optimal growth” to which U.S. infants can be compared.

In line with this recommendation, we are providing the new WHO international growth charts for Birth to 2 Years for your use, as well as the standard CDC growth charts for Birth to 36 Months. The following information may be useful as you consider how to best assess and monitor the growth and development of the infants and children in your practice.

Both the WHO growth charts and the CDC growth charts are tools which may be useful in the evaluation of infant and child growth and development. Yet ultimately it is the evidence-based knowledge and clinical skills of practitioners that will prove most valuable in providing parents with the understanding and guidance needed to promote their child’s health. We are pleased to be able to partner with you in this endeavor.

The charts below can be used to assess your patients’ heights and weights over time and are grouped into the following categories:
