Preparation

• Mixing Instructions
  • Drink 2 packets daily in addition to a complete balanced diet.
  • Pour packet of JUVEN into 8 to 10 of juice or water or other liquid and stir with a spoon until powder is dissolved.
  • JUVEN should not be mixed with very hot (>100° F) or very cold (<40° F) liquids.
  • JUVEN can be mixed with fruit juice, yogurt, applesauce, or ice cream to add variety. Unflavored JUVEN mixes easily into favorite foods.
  
  
• Administering Juven Through a Feeding Tube
  1. Do not mix JUVEN with formula in a tube-feeding bag. 
  2. Place one packet of Juven in a clean, small (approximately 6- to 8-fl-oz) container for mixing.
  3. Add 4 ounces (120 mL) room-temperature water.
  4. Mix well with disposable spoon or tongue blade until all particles are completely hydrated.
  5. Verify correct tube placement.
  6. Flush feeding tube with 30 mL water.
  7. Administer JUVEN through feeding tube using a 60-mL or larger syringe.
  8. Flush with an additional 30 mL water. (A smaller amount of water can be used to flush the tube if the patient is on a fluid-restricted diet.)
  9. Because bolus feedings are generally not well tolerated jejunally, JUVEN should be fed into the stomach.
