Preparation

• Instructions for Use

  • Store unopened product in a cool, dry place.
  • Prepare only the amount intended for a single day's feeding.
  • for each 300-mL serving, pour 255 mL (8.6 fl oz) of room-temperature water into a clean container.
  • While stirring, slowly empty the contents of one packet of Vital HN into the container. Continue to mix for 30 seconds or until the powder dissolves.
  • Refrigerate after preparation if not used immediately.
  • Discard unused solution after 24 hours.
  
  Oral Feeding:
  • Serving Vital HN chilled enhances its flavor and increases palatability.
  • It may be used as a sole source of nutrition or as a supplement to the prescribed diet.
  
  Tube Feeding:
  • Follow physician's instructions.
  • Vital HN can be used with the specially designed Abbott Enteral Delivery System.
  • Administer at room temperature.
  • For gravity feeding, use an 8 Fr or larger tube. A 5 Fr tube may be used for pump feeding.
  • Refrigeration increases the viscosity of Vital HN. When Vital HN has been refrigerated, an 8 Fr tube should be used for pump feeding and a 10 Fr for gravity feeding.
  • Adjust flow rate and volume to meet patient's nutritional needs and tolerance.
  • Additional fluid requirments should be met by giving water with or between feedings or when flushing the tube.
  • Avoid contamination during preparation and use.
